Hello, this is Sarah Wagner, coming to you with "Breaking News" from Concord, Massachusetts. Earlier today, a shot rang out in Lexington, but no one knows for sure who fired it. Was it the British, or was it the colonists? What we do know is hundreds of British troops ran into approximately 70 minutemen who were gathered together to defend their land. When the fighting was over in Lexington, British troops continued to make their way over to Concord, where I am.
Mr. Ludington, please tell me your thoughts about this, "first, fired shot."
"Well, I believe it was the British who came here to fight and thought we would die quickly. They did not think we were ready to fight, so they tried to surprise us."
Thank you, Mr. Ludington, for your thoughts on this battle.
Another minuteman is coming over to speak with me.
Mr. Downing, did you feel prepared for this battle?
"Yes. Paul Revere, William Dawes and Samuel Prescott warned us so we would be ready and prepared for the British."
How many of you were waiting?
"I am not sure, but I think there were about 70 of us."
Thank you for your time and we all wish you safety and a quick victory.
Now I will interview a British soldier to hear their side of the story.
Captain Wellington, what is your side of the story?
"Quite obviously, it was the nasty Colonists trying to get a head start. By the time this is over, this entire country will be under British domain."
Why do you think that?
"We are many, we are strong. We have only lost one man. The Colonists have lost more, and many of them are wounded. I definitely think we have the upper hand on this."
Since there are no other Colonists in sight, I am hoping they are planning a surprise attack. The British seem to be heading back to Boston. I will follow them along the way, to see if I can speak to more soldiers and try to find out their next battle plans.
Hold on, cries of pain and agony are coming from down the road. It appears to be some Colonists shooting from behind trees. With the bright red coats, the British are and easy target. Hoping I do not die, this is Sarah Wagner, signing off with "Breaking News!"
